Consideration of Attitudes and Skills of a Counselor from the point of view of Confirmative Response

Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to compare the concept of “Dialogue method” proposed by Asano with that of the traditional theory of counseling.

The principle of “Dialogue method” is “Before telling your own thoughts and feelings, confirm in your own words the point the speaker wants to say.”

This method suggests classifying all responses in verbal communications into “confirmative response” and “reactive response.”

These new simple concepts and skills are effective in understanding the theory and skills of counseling. “Confirmative response” decreases weak points of “reflection of feelings” and “repeating mechanically.”

And the traditional classification of counselor's responses is simplified by the new classification.
